Before getting started here, it might be best to clarify the term web hosting. Typing this term into any search engine will easily give you several pages of those available to you on the web today.

It has become one of the easiest and the best ways to brand your business and/or name. Anyone can do it. With all of the technology that has become available to you, it is no longer expensive nor will it necessarily involve the hiring of a web site designer.

To aid you in the decision making process, today the web site will present the pros and cons along with both free and paid recommendations and one site and alternative service plans.

Getting Started...

First decide what you are capable of and then what kind of host will best fit your individual needs. The categories are many. Some will involve a monthly or yearly fee. Some will offer you available space ranging from 25 mega bytes or more. Some will even offer you the option of an easy to use site builder or html based control panel with the already included software and/or php script e-commerce capability.

Pros...

Site Builders.
Easy to use, somewhat similar to the many template bundles you may have already found available to you on the web. The only prior experience required being a basic (very basic) knowledge of graphics format, working with links and an idea of the layout of how your finished product (web page) will look.

HTML.
Hyper text markup language. Not as complicated to learn as it will at first sound. Repetition is the key here. Learning this could be an asset, as it will eventually give you complete control of how your finished design will look.

Cons...

Site Builders.
Site builders and their template counterparts although easier to use, can limit your creativity as any design selected is already pre-set, requiring only that you insert text, links, graphics, etc., where indicated. However, as we are all not born web site designers, this could also be an asset.

HTML.
Although this does as earlier indicated, give you complete control over any design ideas etc., with the many different types of browsers that are being used today, it can also give you unexpected results. You will need to begin with an easy to follow guide and a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) site editor.

Conclusions and Recommendations...

No one can tell you better than yourself today, exactly what will work the best for you. After all, when you consider the pros and cons listed here you must also take into consideration; your budget, your time, and just exactly what types of products and services you will eventually be offering.

There is, as mentioned at the beginning of this article, a wide range of web hosts available to you. A good web host will offer you alternatives, making it possible for you to implement and/or integrate just about anything. An even better one will offer you a one-site stop for any web building needs you may have.

One important factor that has not, until now, been mentioned here today is reliability. The best web host will offer you all of the above along with full reliability. Beginning with that factor first, the 4 recommendations made here today will also offer you affordability, both a template based and an html site builder, and/or site based or third party e-commerce capabilities.
