What is a theme-based perspective? You may or may not be aware of it, but you may already be using this strategy. It is just one of the many ways to build and/or put your business on the web. The three main components will always consist of products or services, information or content, and their placement.

For instance, you may have decided to market shippable goods (yours or an affiliates program) or you may have decided to market your new e-book or manual. Regardless of your products or services lines, including a theme-based perspective will mean including content (resource links) to a library of information dealing with the main subject idea. This could be presented in the form of articles or external links to products, services or ideas that complement your own. A theme-based web site may or may not include a Catalog, but it will always include one or more expanded ideas.

Today, we'll approach it a bit differently; from the perspective of someone just getting started. That person would need information not only on finding products, but on licensing and on finding content.

Getting Started...

The first step to getting started should begin with your products and/or services lines. What are they or what do you intend for them to be? The best way to approach that will be to begin with the ideas mentioned above; shippable goods, an affiliates program or an e-book or manual. Since first writing this article, there have been made available many other affordable alternatives to these ideas.

Shippable goods for instance; you could as mentioned in Stone Evans article Starting Your Home Business on a Shoestring Budget" utilize drop shippers. He writes: "By utilizing drop shippers, we can sell the products, collect the money and then purchase the products from the wholesale outlet. The wholesale outlet will then put a return address for your company on the product packaging and deliver the product directly to your customer."

Does this idea sound too good to be true? It's not. This system would totally eliminate the middleman, having to pre-purchase an inventory or the need for packaging. For further details and to browse the available listings, read the article, complete with resource links online here: http://www.DocumentsCentral.com/Article4.html

After browsing these options you may decide that you would like to market through an affiliates program. You may have already found them to be readily available to you. At first glance this may be the way to go. However the web site recommends that you approach this from a reliability standpoint and if at all possible placing all of your affiliate retailers from one location. This will give you the option of an easier tracking system and less bookkeeping tasks.

There are two very reliable recommendations here. One will involve a list of over 500 Internet merchants and the other will strictly give you digital products (advertising, e-books, manuals...). LinkShare http://www.LinkShare.com and ClickBank http://www.Clickbank.com.

This brings us to our other option; e-books or manuals. These are also readily available to you and if you follow the Clickbank.com link above, don't even require that you pre-purchase any products or services. However on the other hand, they can also be very lucrative. One time purchases with resell rights, requiring no further overhead. This option is best affordably explored through a membership site. Your Next Step...

Although licensing may not, before now, have entered into your train of thought; it is and should be included here today. It will in fact not be all that difficult to obtain nor may it be your next step. After all, you are approaching the Internet.

Depending upon your businesses home based location (and country), the type of business you are in (or are starting up), and the types of products or services you are now (or will be eventually) offering; the only type of licensing that is usually required will be a state sales tax license. Do your research here and start with your local government office. It will be easy to obtain, requiring only that your sales license be placed in the required category(s).

Finally...

I'm sure that by now you've heard the term "Content is King". It has also been made readily available. Like it or not, billions of users take to the Internet on a daily basis looking for information. Viral marketing as it is more commonly referred too, is just another way of competing in what has already become a multi-billion dollar industry.

There are many ways to offer information. If you are offering an e-book or manual for instance, you might want to offer resource links to information on how to use the information contained within. For all other types of resources the web site recommends that you start with one of the free article announcement lists (or write your own).

The writers publishing content here will offer your visitors research materials and resource links to any existing content you may already have (or are putting into place). Yahoo™ presents a complete listing of these in one location. Browse what is available to you online through: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/article_announce.

In Conclusion...

What is your objective here? Do you want your visitor to linger longer? Do you want them to remember you so that when they are ready to purchase, they will return again and again? Building a theme-based web site (or business) takes time and a lot of attention to detail, but in the long term, the results will be well worth it.

Examine all of your options before, during and after. Present your information along with your products or services in a clear, concise and straightforward manner from the onset and chances are, in time, you will begin to see the rewards from all of your hard work.
